The Secret Life of Brass
“The Secret Life of Brass” is a rug-tapestry in steel wire from a capsule collection “The Secret Life of Metals” designed by Nacho Carbonell for NODUS rugs.
Nacho decided to explore a creative borders of the rug, considered it as a work of Art. He exploit metal wires conceiving rugs as sculptures and metals are noble materials commonly used by sculptors. Later on, the rugs have been treated with a protective finish, just as real sculptures, but in this case it was quite arduous because of the thinness of the elements to deal with: that is to say, thinnest wires of a few micron diameter.
Many attempts have been made before achieving the desired results, also because each metal reacts differently to the treatments, each material speaks its own language and has its own life. They kind of express themselves.
Even metals are mutable, they move in their own way.
Nacho Carbonell have been also inspired by an evolution in the use of art textiles, by the fact that the rug is turning into a kind of tapestry.
In a way “The Secret Life of Metals” are a paleontological proof of the evolutionary life of rugs. They are like the fossils of those ones that once were rugs.
“The secret Life of Brass” was hand-knotted in Nepal and Processed in Spain.
