Lines Under the Forest – Office Cupboard
The Office Cupboard is a part of the “Lines Under the Forest” collection. This piece is the result of incredible craftsmanship: its beautiful inlay work juxtaposes Amazonian and Italian woods, enhancing both materials. By only using wax and natural oil, each piece of wood can show its natural beauty. The table legs combine a pyramidal shape with a neoclassical element, symbolizing a strong unification of different materials and cultures. In summary, this cupboard harmonizes very different styles, celebrating the unique qualities of every single element.
The “Lines Under the Forest” series is the result of the Brazilian Artist-in-Residence program by Hillsideout. The main inspiration are the gigantic hieroglyphics of the Amazonian forest. Made of low stone walls, these hieroglyphic mostly depict geometric shapes, such as squares or circles, on a huge scale. In the Seventies, researchers discovered at least 450 enormous figures in Northern Brazil, due to the deforestation. Scientific evidence has shown that these artworks were made by Pre-Columbian people between 1000 and 3000 years ago.
