Frame Mirror n.4
In nature, some living beings can self-regenerate when they lose a limb or other body part. But it never grows back identically; it can even undergo genetic mutations. Inspired by that phenomenon Thibault Dupille set out to regenerate parts of physically damaged objects. Considering the accident as an opportunity to create something new, he went beyond actual reproduction. By expanding and twisting each object’s stump with a 3D-printer, unique prostheses are born that suggest biologic growth. As such, ‘MITOSIS’ does not only extend the lifespan of broken items, but also offers an upgrade. The unexpected, deformed shape adds both functional and aesthetic value.
