Altamira
“I imagined a piece of furniture with a primitive yet sacred appearance that would pay homage to great woods.”
The Altamira buffet/ sideboard, designed by Simone Fanciullacci, is a (treasure) chest made up of large elements, all different from each other, but which fit together and create a composition similar to a small piece of architecture. It is the relationship between the pieces that make up the object, the way they are chosen and are positioned, that render it whole. Each joint line is unique, each side of the object is different, just as each piece of wood is singular, and different from another.
For this collection, a single type of wood from a single tree was used, a 5-meter tall antique maple tree in Turin, infested by woodworm, that as a result of natural disaster collapsed, and was subsequently reclaimed.
