Maku Armchair
Design by Ryoji IEDOKORO
‘MAKU ’and “WAKU”. ‘If you turn the ‘M ’in ‘MAKU ’up and down, it becomes ‘WAKU’. Assuming it can be seen by people from all over the world in Milan, we chose a short, rhythmic sound and an impactful name that everyone will be familiar with. If you understand Japanese, you will notice the polyseminity of the sound ‘MAKU’. One is ‘sowing ’ seeds. This furniture design is a project that ‘sows ’the seeds of culture and design from Japan to Italy. If you look closely, the pattern drawn in gold paint looks like ‘makie’. And ‘MAKU = membrane’. The texture covering the surface like a membrane is the point of the design.
