Mal 1956 Chair and Ottoman
Design by MAL Furniture
Prototype
This whimsical outdoor version of the classic 1956 Eames chair and ottoman by Mal Furniture is made entirely of plastic and features drain holes in both the seat and ottoman. Originally produced around 2011, the chair is no longer in production. While it has some wear, including nicks and scrapes, it remains in good condition. The Mal 1956 chair, designed by Niels Wildenberg and Bob Copray, is a brightly colored, plastic reinterpretation of the Eames lounge chair, crafted from polyethylene using a rotational molding process. It was designed to be durable and outdoor-friendly, with rainwater drainage holes where the original leather buttons would be. Though inspired by a classic, the designers viewed it as a unique product, despite receiving some attention from Vitra, the company that produces the original Eames chair.
