Octopus Vase

The Barzoi vase is based on the archetypal shape of the amphora, but significantly alters it. It takes away some of its versatility and adds the uniqueness of unusual things. Barzoi vase honours function, nevertheless it plays with form provocatively. Even a cursory glance suggests that this is a completely autonomous object, independent of its surroundings. Its fragile elegance, enhanced by its slim profile, gives the object a specific character. With its atypical shape, Barzoi attacks our senses, forcing us to approach it, to examine it in detail. The optical illusion that its ingenious shape plays out tempts the limits of our imagination. Like the breed of greyhound that inspired the designer’s choice of name, it is characterised by its elegance as well as its surprising strength. This sets it apart from its surroundings, enhances its singularity and moves the vase from a utilitarian object towards an artefact.
