PET Lamp Ramingining
In 2017, The PET Lamp Project was commissioned by the National Gallery of Victoria to bring to life an Australian PET Lamp in collaboration with the indigenous artisan weavers of Ramingining, for the NGV Triennial Exhibition.
After much intercontinental organisation, the ACdO Team travelled to Ramingining for 6 weeks of Workshops: These Workshops are critical to the PET Lamp Project and are approached with no predetermined ideas, allowing the artisans and designers to learn from each other in order to encourage truly collaborative and original work.
The two final pieces are a direct result of this: Inspired by the weaving of Mary Gulpili, a twin who’s dual vision of the World lead her to create her shade in a bonded pair, the PET Lamps Ramingining are goliath tapestry-like lamps, comprised of a multitude of shades linked to each other to reflect the complex kin relationships that exist between the artisans.
