Low Rack is a part of Material Racks collection. Material Racks is conceptually derived from the principle of Contextomy – the practice of taking something out of its original context, placing it somewhere foreign, shifting and altering its meaning. It is mostly intentional, sometimes accidental, causing us to think twice and look at something in a different light. Lifting an industrial element and placing it where it wasn’t originally intended, imbuing it with a new character and purpose. At a visit to a factory, one would typically find heavy duty racks used for the storage and transport of materials. By taking them into the home, they are repurposed as something different, framing the materials rested upon them.
Inspired from the industrial forms, the racks are made of steel tubes, finished with matte powder coating. Anodised aluminium tubes are added to contrast the original image of robustness with something more delicate, glossy and colourful. A composition of glass showcases a study based on research around various glass treatments and experiments.

In his work Germans Ermičs is exploring the subject of his fascination with glass and mirrors, experimenting and researching materials.
Colours take on enormous proportions in his works, to the point where the materials they’re applied to either seem more exciting than they ever have before, or disappear entirely in the viewer’s consciousness.
