In 2006, Maarten Baas launched CLAY furniture, a vivid and colourful successor to the eminent SMOKE series from 2003. CLAY’s naïve forms took an autonomous place in the contemporary design world, pioneering the way for playful and organic approaches to design.
The CLAY series has extended its family to include a diverse range of furniture. In addition, several renowned museums and private clients have commissioned Baas to create unique CLAY pieces for their own collections.
All CLAY furniture is dexterously made by hand with no two pieces being exactly the same. Of the entire collection, the CLAY dining chair is considered the most iconic piece, often referred to as a “classic of the future.”
Now, 10 years after its launch, Rossana Orlandi presented during Salone del Mobile 2016 a limited edition of 10 chairs to celebrate its anniversary.

Maarten Baas' pieces are all unique and handmade, though produced in series, most are signed and numbered by Maarten Baas. Maarten is searching for the boundaries of design, without leaning on the regular "dos and don'ts".View designer’s page
